C. Arthur HANSEN has purchased the John McFARLAND residence property, one block south of city hall in Mount Ayr. Mr. HANSEN has ably served the local schools for two years as superintendent and will continue in that capacity under terms of a three-year contract. The McFARLANDS will move to the S. W. HOOVER property in Sheldon Heights, which they recently purchased. The HOOVERS plan to move to Denver, CO.

The scholarship awards committee recently informed James HORNE and Kenneth LAY, seniors in the Mount Ayr high school, that they had been granted student aid scholarships from the General Scholarship Funds at Iowa State College, Ames, for 1957-58. Both plan to pursue a course in engineering at Iowa State College [present-day Iowa State University].

A petition is on file in the office of county superintendent Vera F. DICKENS for the establishment of a proposed Grand Valley Community school district in Ringgold and Decatur counties.

Suzanne TODD, a senior in the Mount Ayr high school, was announced Saturday as one of the six state winners of a $500 freshman scholarship awarded by the Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs. Suzanne is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard E. TODD of this city.

WIlliam F. SHIDLER, who recently resigned as superintendent of the Diagonal school, has accepted a position as principal of the Carson School. Mrs. SHIDLER will serve as fifth grade teacher in the same school.

Seven persons escaped serious injury Saturday evening in an accident which involved three cars. Occupants of the cars were Mr. and Mrs. Charles HOHNEKE and their 16-year-old daughter, Elaine, of Lamoni and Mr. and Mrs. Albert O'DELL and Robert BAGLEY and a friend of Kelleton. Robert BAGLEY, 16 years of age, and a friend had parked on the crest of a hill in front of the Earl OGIER farm home while waiting for the OGIER'S daughter. The HOHNEKES weere driving north on their way to Kellerton and Mr. and Mrs. O'DELL were traveling south when the approached the hill. Neither driver saw the parked car in time to avoid a collision.

  • May 14, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Franklin SAVILLE, Lamoni
