RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, July 16, 1959

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Friends, relatives and neighbors went Thursday and Friday to the Hayden SMITH farm and stacked hay and cultivated corn and beans. Mr. SMITH was released Saturday from the Ringgold County Hospital where he had spent two weeks convalescing from foot injuries received in a lawn mower accident.

The Percy STULL residence property in north Mount Ayr was sold Saturday at public auction to sheriff Warren A. DRAKE for $1,700. Dennis OWENS was the auctioneer and Hugh A. FOSTER served as clerk.

Four Tingley youths were arraigned before justice of the peace C. E. THOMPSON Saturday morning in Mount Ayr and pleaded guilty to charges of shooting firecrackers in violation of the Iowa fireworks law. The young men were Robert LUPHER, Von TULL, Robert PALMER and Tom OWENS. Each was assessed a fine of $100 and one dollar costs. The four boys were shooting firecrackers early the morning of July 4 in southwest Tingley. An annoyed citizen discharged his shotgun, pellets from which struck LUPHER and TULL. PALMER and OWENS were unscathed by the blast. Floyd GUESS of Tingley, who allegedly discharged the shotgun, was represented in Justice THOMPSON'S court by his counsel, Arnold O. KENYON of Creston, who entered a plea of not guilty to charges of assault with intent to inflict great bodily injury and waived to the grand jury. A bond in the amount of $500 was posted.
