At 4:30 a.m. Sunday fire routed Frankie JOHNSON, 31, out of her Mount Ayr home just in time to escape with her life but heavy damage ws done to the three-bedroom, two-story house she was buying and its contents. There was no insurance. Mount Ayr volunteer firemen were called to the scene to find JOHNSON outside. She had been able to lift herself into the wheelchair to which she has been confined since a motorcycle accident three and one-half years ago.

Lucile BENSON of Mount Ayr will be observing her 80th birthday anniversary on March 1.

A retirement open house was held on Friday, Feb. 24, for Doris RULE, an employee at the Mount Ayr Record-News for more than 32 eyars.

The late Gene HANNON was named to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association's Hall of Fame during a Hall of Fame banquet held Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Five Seasons Hotel in Cedar Rapids.

A nephew of a Mount Ayr resident is one of the state leaders in several swimming events heading into the end of the season high school meets. Andy KYSER, a junior at Davenport North high school in Davenport, has the second fastest time in the 100 yard freestyle, the fourth fastest time in the 200 yard freestyle and the 14th fastest time in the 100 yard individual medley in the latest ratings from the Iowa Boys High School Athletic Association. KYSER is the nephew of Valle SMITH of Mount Ayr.

Chip BRUNDAGE serves as western vice-president for the state business education organization and obersved Terry Branstad's signing ceremony proclaiming vocational education week.
