Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 15, 1962

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Three 14-year-old youths of Mankato, MN, occupants of a car stolen in Winterset, were arrested Saturday morning about 10:30 a.m. after a high speed chase by Ringgold county sheriff Elbert STRANGE and Gerald HOUCK, Decatur county deputy sheriff. Sheriff STRANGE set up a road block west of Mount Ayr after Winterset officers reported the theft of a car in that city, which was believed to be headed south.

A second traveling bowling league started operation Sunday with the Mount Ayr bowlers winning three games from the team from Albany, MO, in matches rolled on Lucky Lanes. The new league, composed of eight teams from southern Iowa and northern Missouri, is known as the Ia-Mo League. In addition to Albany, other Missouri teams included in the league are Bethany and Grant City. Iowa teams, other than Mount Ayr, are Bedford, Lamoni, Lenox and Clearfield.

Graduates of the adult education classes in the Mount Ayr Community school district were awarded diplomas during a program held Monday night in the schoolhouse in Mount Ayr. Sixty-seven "students" received diplomas for successfully completing a 10 nights' period of study in basic typing, Bible, drivers training, knitting, sewing, cake decorating and conversational Spanish.

Lynn OBERMEIER of Tingley and Dixie RAMSBOTTOM of Diagonal, students at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, are included among the eight Tigerettes selected by Coach Olan G. RUBLE to go tomorrow (Friday) to Sioux Falls, SD to play the Russian All-Stars.
