Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, May 15, 2003

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Two Mount Ayr physicians were recognized when the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association held its annual conference and scientific seminar in Des Moines recently. Bruce RICKER, D.O., was named the association's "Physician of the Year" and Dane JOHNSON, D.O., was installed as vice president of the association.

There are four letter winners back for the Mount Ayr Community Raider golf team this year. They include Tanner RINEHART, Justin REDDING, Mike MITCHELL and Drew YODER. Two events seem like a lock to advance to the boys Class 2A state track meet and the Raiders have two others close. To qualify for the state meet, a team must have a time or distance in the top 24 in the state. Ranked fourth in the long jump in Class 2A so far this year is Nathan WEEDA in the long jump with a leap of 21’05”. Ranked 10th in the 1600 meter medley relay is the Raider distance medley team in a clocking of 3:43.08, which also seems likely to survive.

A Mount Ayr student at Graceland University in Lamoni has been named to the all-conference baseball team for the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Brandon YODER, a senior on the Yellowjacket baseball team, was named to the all-conference second team. YODER hit .396 for the season and had 42 hits, five doubles, two triples and nine home runs with 39 runs batted in. He had a .736 slugging average in 106 at bats during the season.

Dr. Peggy WHITSON, Ringgold county's own astronaut, will becoming back to Iowa in May when the International Space Station Trailers exhibit comes to Iowa State University in Ames.

Ringgold Singers held their annual concert at Mount Ayr Community high school Friday night with the theme "Gettin' In The Mood."

Members of the Mount Ayr Community FFA chapter shared information on farm safety with Mount Ayr Community sixth graders Tuesday morning, May 6. Helping with the farm safety day were Kyle HAYSE, Andrea LARSEN, Chelsea CAMPBELL, Brad ENGLAND, Levi CAMERON, Brandon STILL, Brian BAILEY, Michael DOOLITTLE, Kegan BISHOP, Kevin TRULLINGER, Tommie OVERHOLSER, Luke LARSEN, Joe WASKE, Ryan NOBLE, Dustin STARK, Scott COOK, Michael INLOES and Kellen WALDEIER.
