Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

A new feature of Ridiculous Days in Mount Ayr will be the selection of a queen, who will be crowned immediately following the parade on Saturday. Business firms are urged to select and sponsor a queen candidate. Any high school girl or woman, either married or single, is eligible to enter the contest. Six Mount Ayr business firms have signified their intentions of sponsoring a queen candidate and each has paid a $2 entry fee. They are the Ben Franklin Store, P. M. Place Co., Hy-Vee, Cole's Firestone, Anthony's and Mount Ayr Furniture Store.

Betty WALLACE of Benton captured the admiration of a large audience of relatives, friends and lovers of good music when she was heard in her senior piano recital Tuesday evening of last week in the Methodist church in Mount Ayr. Miss WALLACE, a 1961 graduate of the Mount Ayr Community high school, is the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Chester WALLACE.

Mrs. Bob LESAN of Benton suffered bruises and Wilbur SAVILLE of Redding escaped injury when their cars collided Thursday afternoon about 5 p.m at the junction of Highways 169 and 2, a mile west of Mount Ayr.

Barton ABARR of Redding was elected director of the Mount Ayr Community school district in the only contest in the county at the annual school election held Monday. He was elected from director district No. 4. ABARR received a total of 191 votes cast at eight polling places while Ralph BRAMMER of Delphos tallied a total of 108 votes. ABARR will succeed Harold COMBS. Emeral WHEELEN, unopposed as a candidate to succeed himself from director district No. 3, polled a total of 219 votes.

Funeral services for Clarence V. DAILEY of Liberty township were held Monday afternoon. Mr. DAILEY, who had been hospitalized since August with injuries suffered in anauto accident near Lindsborg, KS, died Saturday in the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Mrs. DAILEY was fatally injured in the accident.

The driver of an ambulance from the University Hospitals in Iowa City and two patients, who were being returned to their homes, escaped injury when the ambulance was destroyed by fire about 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon of last week, on Highway 169 one-half mile north of the Tingley corner. After observing smoke rising from the rear of the ambulance, the driver, William DEVINE of Iowa City, drove the vehicle onto the shoulder of the highway and found that the left rear wheel had come off, the axle had crystallized and the gasoline line was broken. Sparks, which resulted from metal dragging on the pavement, had ignited the gasoline. Firemen of Tingley and Mount Ayr were called to the scene but the ambulance was destroyed in spite of their efforts. Mrs. Jack CLARK, one of the patients in the ambulance, was returned to her home in Ellston by sheriff Elbert STRANGE and an Iowa highway patrolman took the other patient to his home in Shenandoah.

Dr. M. C. GORDON of Clearfield, a member of the local County Club, successfully defended his title as city golf tournament champion Sunday on the local course. Forty-eight golfers participated in the tourney. GORDON defeated Royce DAVIS in the first extra hole after they had tied at the end of the regulation route.

The 39-acre lake will cost approximately $42,000, to be shared by the federal and state governments. It will be the first lake to be built in Iowa with fish and game funds.
