Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, October 14, 1999

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Monday night at its meeting the Mount Ayr Community school board was reorganized for the coming year with Craig ELLIOTT as president and Mike McGEHEE as vice president.

Molly LYNCH and Brad ELLIOTT reigned as the homecoming royalty for the Mount Ayr Community high school homecoming activities over the weekend. LYNCH, the daughter of Mike LYNCH of Redding, was crowned at halftime ceremonies at the football game Friday night while ELLIOTT, the son of Dick and Donna ELLIOTT of Mount Ayr, was crowned at Thursday evening ceremonies.

New safe playground equipment is being installed at six county parks with funds received in a $60,000 grant from the Roy J. Carver Trust. Playground equipment was being installed at Fife's Grove Park north of Mount Ayr. Inmates from the Clarinda Correctional Facility came to the park to help install the new playground equipment. The grant helps remove any hazardous existing equipment as well as providing for new equipment at the parks. Other locations included the Redding, Kellerton and Tingley community parks, Diagonal Fogel Recreation Area and Poe Hollow Park.

Mount Ayr Products, a division of Dekko Automotive technology, is challenging area business to match their contribution of $1,000 to the Ringgold County Teen Center endowment drive. This business challenge will run through the end of the year and has a goal of raising at least $10,000.

When the Iowa Barnstormers football team takes to the arena next spring, a Mount Ayr native will be on the sideline cheering them on. Amy SHAFER, daughter of Bob and Sheila SHAFER of Mount Ayr, was recently selected as one of the 24 members of the dance/cheer team for the 2000 season.

Ashley INGRAM, an eighth grader from Mount Ayr, participated in a production of "Did Ya Know?," a youth musical to commemorate Winterset's sesquicentennial celebration . INGRAM is the daughter of Dwight and Julie INGRAM of Mount Ayr. INGRAM'S grandparents are Mike and Nancy KELLY of Mount Ayr and Darrel and Maxine WERNER of Shannon City.
