RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, October 14, 1965

by Chanse Hall, Mount Ayr Record-News

Funeral services for Galen Leon WORTHINGTON, of Mount Ayr, who was fatally wounded Thursday night during an attempted watermelon raid at the Clifford STEVENS farm near Denver, MO, were held Monday morning. The 17-year-old died in the Ringgold County Hospital of a .22 calibre bullet wound in the back of his head about two hours after the shooting.

The Wm. S. BRECKENRIDGE Store in Tingley was entered by thieves early yesterday morning and hundreds of dollars worth of valuable merchandise were taken. The robbery was discovered at 7 o'clock when Mr. BRECKENRIDGE opened the store for business.

Four young men were sentenced to 25 years each in the Men's Reformatory at Anamosa only 36 hours after they robbed the Fina Service Station east of Mount Ayr on Highways 2 and 169, of $211 in cash.

A silver rating, the nation's second highest award, was accorded the Mount Ayr chapter of Future Farmers of America during this (Thursday) morning's session of the national F.F.A. convention being held in the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
