Garry Lee HAMILTON, 50, of rural Diagonal was pronounced dead at the scene of a semi/tractor accident which happened about 7:26 p.m. Friday, July 8, eight miles west of Mount Ayr on Highway 2. HAMILTON was the driver of a tractor that was struck by a semi loaded with bales of recycled tin, as it attempted to pass.

The first three agricultural areas in Ringgold county were officially accepted by the Ringgold county board of supervisors at its Monday meeting. These included the areas in the eastern part of the county sought by Rio Baca Inc., a 680 acre area in Middle Fork township requested by Lyle and Kay FARIS and an 800 acre area in Liberty township sought by Lyle and Kay FARIS and Lee and Martha FARIS.

Kenneth and Dorothy DRIMIER of Mount Ayr will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception at the REC community room in Mount Ayr. The couple was married July 16, 1944 in Shenandoah at the servicemen's altar at the United Methodist Church.

The Ringgold County Optimist Club mud volleyball tournament was held at Judge Lewis Park July 4 with eight teams participating. Winning team members included Terrinda LOWMAN, Steve LOWMAN, Sandi SWANSON, Jamie McLEAD, Robert McLEAD and Ron SWANSON.

The Valentine Rebekah Lodge #528 and the Kellerton I.O.O.F. Lodge #425 held a Jewel Pinning Ceremony June 26 at the Kellerton Community Hall. Rebekahs receiving 50-year jewels were Doris GIBSON who was pinned by her daughter Joyce KASTER; and May DAVENPORT being pinned by her daughter Carolyn ETHINGTON. Other 50-year members unable to attend were Doris MAGGARD, Theola BARBOUR and Dortha DAVENPORT. Odd Fellows receiving 50-year jewels were: Chester GIBSON, pinned by his daughter Joyce; Gilmore BARBOUR, pinned by Wilbur BINGAMAN, grand secretary; and Elmer HIGHTSHOE, pinned by his wife, Wilma.

Nineteen and five teams, respectively, competed in the two-person, best shot women's tournament at Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club July 5. Winner in the championship flight of the 18-hole tourney was the team of Karon GILES and Becky DOLECHECK. In the nine-hole tournament the thee winners were Glenda JOBE/Patty CRISPIN, 41; Edna SMALL/Joan FARNAN, 47; and Lorri HAVER/Bessie PARKER, 49.
