Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, January 14, 1988

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Homecoming will be celebrated in the Grand Valley Community school district this week with activities leading up to the homecoming basketball games with Mount Ayr Community Friday night, the crowning of royalty and the homecoming dance. "Tigers Take It All, Raiders Take The Fall" is the theme for the homecoming activities this week.

Condidates for the king and queen honors include Jennifer HULLINGER, Racinda JACKSON, Teena ANDERSON, Jackie MILLER, Kirk HEWLETT, Mark MERCER, Darren CAMPBELL and Steve STUCK.

Sandy WINN (Mrs. Glenn) and Nancy ROE (Mrs. Steve), have been named as head and assistant librarian, respectively, at the Mount Ayr Public Library, according to Dr. Duane E. MITCHELL, chairman of the library board. They began duties in late December. Mrs. WINN has been serving as assistant librarian at the time of the death in December, 1987 of Marie McGILVREY, who was head librarian.

Lester ROBERTSON of Omaha, NE was the winner of an S-10 pickup after his name was drawn at his place of employment, according to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo McBRIDE of Diagonal. Mr. ROBERTSON has been working as a truck driver at Werner's since 1986. He and his wife have two children.

Raider wrestler Doug HICKMAN captured a first placing at the Tiger Takedown Tournament Saturday, Jan. 9, at Lenox. Jarod MURPHY placed second and Casey SCOTT took third. Billy SCHAEFER also participated.

The Mount Ayr Community high school will host its last Tall Corn conference wrestling tournament when loop schools converge here Saturday. The Mount Ayr Community Raiders will host the teams for the tournament where the defending champion Greenfield Tigers are the pick to repeat for the title. Next year the Raiders will move on to the Pride of Iowa conference, so this is the last Tall Corn conference tournament for the squad.
