Steps toward hiring assistant superintendent Tyler WILLIAMS as the new superintendent for the district were handled by the Mount Ayr Community school board Monday night.

Three Mount Ayr Assembly of Rainbow for Girls members who have state offices took part in the fall mini grand assembly at the Marion Masonic Temple in Marion. Julie ROUDYBUSH, Grand Executive; Andrea TAYLOR, Grand Hope, and Courtney CANNON, Grand Nature, participated in the initiation of nine new members into the order and other activities. Kris ROUDYBUSH, Mother Advisor of the Mount Ayr Assembly, accompanied the girls.

Three Mount Ayr Community high school students were selected for the Southwest Iowa honor concert band. Students chose in the auditions included Clara TERRELL, oboe; Landi McFARLAND, tenor saxophone; and Rachel SOBOTKA, clarinet. Also trying out were Maggie GILLILAND, flute; Tim STORHOFF, trumpet, and Daniel STULL, tuba.

State representative Cecil DOLECHECK of Mount Ayr has been named chairman of the house education appropriations, subcommitte. DOLECHECK, 49, will begin serving his third term in the Iowa House in January.
