Approximately 900 members and friends attended the 19th annual meeting of the Rideta Electric Coop-erative held Friday at the fairgrounds north of Mount Ayr. C. C. BRIMMER of Kellerton, chairman of the board, conducted the meeting.

John Van LAAR and John GROSE, unopposed candidates, were re-elected members and Orr ALLEN of Kellerton, also unopposed, was re-elected treasurer of the board of education of the Grand Valley Community school district at the regular election held Monday.

Members of the Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club have been invited to participate in the "Tournament of Champions" golf tournament to be held September 16 and September 23 at the Daviess County Country Club in Gallatin, MO. Those who are eligible and expect to play are Lyle DULANY, Keith COLE, Dr. Charles W. LAWHEAD, Dale HERRINGTON, Jim MARKLEY, Andy JOHNSTON and Gary McCULLOUGH.

Mary Sue BASTOW of Mount Ayr is Iowa's candidate for Interstate Girl of the year, the winner of which title will be selected during the Saint Joseph Interstate Show to be held September 17-20 in Saint Joseph, MO. Mary Sue, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert BASTOW, is an eight-year member of the Liberty Belles 4-H Club and recently retired as county vice president.

Phillip DRAKE will share the speakers' platform with Iowa's Governor Norman EERBE, the Hon. Bourke B. HICKENLOOPER, United States senator from Iowa, and other personalities at the Soil Conservation District Field Day being held today (Thursday) in Atlantic. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond DRAKE of Rice township and a sophomore in the Mount Ayr Community high school, Phillip will speak on "How Soil and Water Conservation Affects My Future," the subject of which this year won for him the county and district speaking contests.

Patty STEPHENS of Diagonal and Raymond SHIELDS of Tingley were elected county 4-H presidents during the first county 4-H conference held Friday night in Mount Ayr. Miss STEPHENS, daughter of Mrs. Gayland STEPHENS, is a seven-year member of the Washington Workers, and Raymond, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell SHIELDS, has been a member of the Tingley Toppers for the same number of years.

Burl BRINER, tenant of the Bob LYNCHES of Maloy, suffered a brain concussion, facial cuts and bruises in a farm accident, which happened Friday afternoon about 5 p.m. While stacking nine-inch hedge corner posts on the LYNCH farm, north of Maloy, one of the posts was dislodged and struck BRINER on the left side of his head before he could move out of its way. His left ear was almost severed and X-rays at the Ringgold County Hospital, where he was taken by Mr. LYNCH following the accident, revealed a brain concussion.

Art SCHMIT, manager of Anthony's Department Store, was elected president of the Mount Ayr Businessmen's Club Thursday night. He succeeds George JACKSON, owner and operator of the Mount Ayr Cleaners.
