Megan LONGFELLOW was crowned as homecoming queen and Chip BRUNDAGE reigned as homecoming king for the Mount Ayr
Community high school homecoming activities over the weekend.
Robert BOOTH, Jr. was hired as Ringgold County deputy sheriff, and he brought his traned and certified canine
unit, a German Shepherd dog named "Shaq" with him.
Robert BOOTH and Shaq were in the junior/senior high school building at Mount Ayr Community schools on a misison,
according to the Ringgold County sheriff, Lyle MINNICK. They were working in cooperation with and with the approval
of the superintendent of schools, Phil BURMEISTER, in making a statement that "drugs won't be tolerated" on school
property. Shaq is trained to discover drugs and was involved in searching the lockers for any signs o unlawful
substances. Nothing of significance was found.
The resignation of Jim CLARK, director of building and grounds at Ringgold County Hospital since July 1985, was
announced at the hospital board meeting Monday night.
Mary WIESE, chairperson of the welcoming committee for the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce, made a "welcome wagon"
delivery to Sara McNABB of 802 East Jackson Street.
Jerica JACKSON of Kellerton received the Cathy Carter junior sportsmanship award by the Iowa Hawkeye Horseshoe
Pitcher's Association in Winterset after placing high in several meets. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barry
JACKSON of Kellerton.
Two Diagonal volleyball players have statistics among the leaders in the state, according to the Iowa Girls High
School Athletic Union. Billi GOODALE ranks second in digs and Bonnie WERNER ranks 17th in digs.
