RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 13, 1980

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Work began this week on the new Mount Ayr offices for Tingley State Savings Bank. According to Carl RIGGS, president of the bank, the new Mount Ayr headquarters building will be created from a deserted gas station on Highway 2. The existing structure will be refaced and enlarged to provide 4,407 square feet for banking services.

The Ringgold County Challenge Center is planning an open house Sunday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at 115 E. Madison in Mount Ayr (Finch Produce Building). This will give residents of the county an opportunity to tour the building and learn more about the work done by handicapped adults in the area. Items made by the clients in the program will be on display and cookies and punch will be served throughout the afternoon.

David Leo McDANIEL, graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school, received his PhD in nuclear physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Oct. 31, 1980.

Mount Ayr volunteer firemen were called out Friday, Nov. 4, and again the next day to fires that did extensive damage to a combine and a house at Maloy. On Friday a combine belonging to Bob BENNETT had about $12,000 in damage when a fire started in the motor area. The loss was covered by insurance.

An empty house at Maloy belonging to Dolly McNEESE, who lives away from here, burned almost to the ground when sparks from a trash fire stated a blaze.
