Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Three new teachers were hired for the coming school year to fill two newly created positions and a vacancy. Peggy MILLER will take the elementary school art and physical education position. Gary ETCHESON will be elementary school guidance counselor and help with special education placement in a position which will be shared with the Grand Valley school district, and Heather VICTOR will take over the handicapped pre-school program.

Two area students were among 1,900 Iowa high school seniors recently recognized as State of Iowa scholars by the Iowa College Aid Commission, a state agency which administers the annual scholarship program. Named as State of Iowa scholars were Jennifer SCHAEFER, a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school, and Amy AKERS, a senior at Grand Valley Community high school.

Susan THOMPSON of Mount Ayr, daughter of Jo Ann BUCKNER of Mount Ayr and Den THOMPSON of New Market, is the recipient of a 1989-90 Merit Award at Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg. THOMPSON will be an 1989 graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school and plans to major in journalism.
