Ringgold county was hit by another in a long string of severe storms this summer Tuesday when a storm with strong winds, hail and heavy rain crossed the county. Hail was reported in the eastern part of the county and strong winds were also reported with tree and road damage.The worst damage occurred at the WILCOXSON farm in southeastern Ringgold county. Strong winds destroyed a large machine shed, tipped over a travel trailer, dented one grain bin and flung another across the road. No one was reported injured though residents watched as the bin blew across the road.

How did Ringgold county's population grow between 1990 and 2000? It wasn't by natural change. Only 10 counties in the state had a greater loss of population by natural change than Ringgold county. Ringgold county population grew because of new people moving into the county -- or net migration. In fact, only a third of the counties in the state had more positive net migration than Ringgold county. Ringgold county saw an increase inpopulation of 49 over the decade, as has been reported previously.

Amber SHIELDS, daughter of David and Kim SHIELDS of Mount Ayr, was installed as worthy advisor of Mount Ayr Assembly #160, International Order of Rainbow for Girls in Iowa and Minnesota Sunday, June 10, 2001 at the Mount Ayr Masonic Temple.

A sitting bench and a gazing ball were placed in the garden at Clearview Nursing Home in memory of W. R. STONER. STONER was a resident at Clearview for almost two years.

State 4-H Conference was held at Iowa State University June 26-28. Representing Ringgold county were Amy HYNEK serving on the 2000-2001 State 4-H Council and Landi McFARLAND installed into the 2001-2002 State 4-H Council. McFARLAND was chosen from southwest Iowa by interview to be on the State 4-H Council with 42 other 4-Hers across the state. McFARLAND also performed in CY Stephens [auditorium] for the entire group with her jazz solo, "It's My Life."

New minister at the United Methodist parish which includes Mount Ayr, Redding and Middle Fork is the Rev. Susan A. THOMAS. THOMAS comes to Mount Ayr from serving in the United Methodist churches in Merrill and Adaville since 1999.

Members of the Kellerton United Methodist Church honored Louise MEADOWS with a plaque for her many years of service during the July 8 Sunday morning worship. MEADOWS recently retired after serving for several years as church treasurer. She began playing the church organ when it was purchased, a responsibility she continues to faithfully perform. The organ was dedicated in July 1951. MEADOWS was a pianist for the church for a few years before the organ was purchased but does not remember how long. It is estimated that her tenure could easily span more than 60 years.
