RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, January 12, 1961

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Mr. and Mr. J. E. BRADLEY, who are spending the winter months in Clearwater, FL, suffered second and third degree burns in a fire Sunday morning, which damaged their trailer house. Both are parties in the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. A report of the explosion and fire, taken from the January 9 issue of the Saint Petersburg (Florida) Times, was received yesterday morning from W. L. KIRBY, formerly of Mount Ayr, who resides in Clearwater.

Fifty men went Friday to the John BLAUER farm in Tingley township, which is occupied by the Donald WEEDA family, and assisted with the clearing of debris, the result of a fire which destroyed approximately 3,000 bushels of corn on New Year's Eve.

All officers of the Ringgold County Hospital board of trustees were re-elected to their present positions during a meeting of the board held Monday night at the hospital. They are Everett REYNOLDS, chairman; Ora MILLER, vice chairman and John FAUST, secretary. Ora FUGATE of Kellerton, who replaces Clarence AUSTIN of Diagonal, as a member of the board of trustees assumed the duties of office during the meeting. Other members of the board are Russell BOYD of Tingley and J. T. NICHOLS and Leo SALTZMAN of Mount Ayr.

Fire of an unknown origin Sunday afternoon at the Mrs. E. L. CANNON residence north of Mount Ayr caused damage to the floor of the downstairs bathroom and the walls of the kitchen and bathroom were soiled by smoke. The fire evidently started in some straw that had been placed under the house about the water pipes to keep them from freezing.

The WARIN Oil Company of Maloy, the low bidder, was awarded the contract January 4 by the board of supervisors for delivering 29,000 gallons of gasoline to the county shed in Mount Ayr. The contract bid was 0.0461 discount below customer's tank wagon price of $.257 per gallon.

Roger MORRISON, a member of the Ringgold County Extension Council of Tingley township, was elected chairman of the council. Mr. MORRISON succeeds Ira J. CAMPBELL, who ably served in the capacity of chairman during the past year. Other officers elected to serve in 1961 are Mr. CAMPBELL, vice chairman; Mrs. Laurance BISHOP, secretary, and H. K. LORIMOR, treasurer.

William HAROVER was elected president of the Ringgold County Development Corporation by directors. Other officers elected included Arch DUNFEE, first vice president; Carl G. RIGGS of Tingley, second vice president; Darrell REED, secretary, and Clinton RICE, treasurer.

Porter HAVELY, a semi-retired farmer who resides on the Kellerton-Lamoni road on the county line, suffered a severed artery and tendons and injured nerves to his left wrist and arm in a chain saw accident about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon of last week.
