Ann BEYMER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. BEYMER of Diagonal, is the new Ringgold county spelling champion. With 14 students competing, Ann won first in the written and oral divisions to gain the title in the contest held March 31, in Mount Ayr. Second place winner was Connie MORGAN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo V. MORGAN of Monroe township.

Howard RICE of Athens township announces his candidacy for the Republican nomination for member of the board of supervisors of Ringgold county, term commencing January 1964.

Mary SHEIL, a junior in the Mount Ayr Community high school, has been selected to attend the 1962 Hawkeye Girls State, to be held June 11-23 on the State College of Iowa campus in Cedar Falls. Miss SHEIL and Carolyn REYNOLDS were chosen by the Mount Ayr American Legion Auxiliary Unit as its delegate and alternate to Girls State. The daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Linn SHEIL and Mr.and Mrs. Everett REYNOLDS of Mount Ayr. They were chosen from the top one-third of the junior class.

Dixie RAMSBOTTOM, junior post guard for the Iowa Wesleyan College Tigerettes, was named to the All-American team concluding the women's national AAU tournament played last week in Saint Joseph, MO.

Neighbors and friends went Saturday to the farm of Mrs. Marie WELLS and picked her corn.
