RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, September 11, 1980

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Open house and dedication of the new Mount Ayr Community elementary school building will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. No program is planned, but visitors will have an opportunity to tour the new elementary building and the remodeled 1936 building that now make up the elementary school complex.

Twenty-seven years of service at the Diagonal post office came to an end recently for Richard (Dick) YASHACK. YASHACK retired after serving as postmaster in Diagonal since April 15, 1953. Judy BERRY of Creston is serving as officer in charge until a new postmaster is appointed.

YASHACK, who ran a cabinet shop in Diagonal for five years before becoming postmaster, plans to work on cabinets as part of his leisure time after retirement. A Diagonal resident since 1933 when his family moved to Diagonal from Mount Ayr, he and his wife, Marjorie, have three children: Mrs. Marilyn WERNER of rural Shannon City, Jan FORD for rural Ellston, and Shelley YAHSACK of Waukee. A son, Ronald Allen, was killed in Vietnam in 1969.

Two families have been welcomed to Mount Ayr by Mrs. J. H. EDDY, of the Mount Ayr Improvment Club Newcomer committee.

Dr. and Mrs. Keith MILLER and Marcy, eight, Kevin, six and Amanda two, have moved to 403 South Douglas Street in Mount Ayr from Washington, IA. They attend the Baptist Church. Dr. MILLER is associated in the practice of veterinary medicine with Dr. Kenneth HUNT.

Mr. and Mrs. Ron LANDPHAIR of 601 East Madison Street, Mount Ayr, moved here from Leon. Their family included Nicole, eight, and Ronnie, six. They are members of the United Methodist Church. Ron teaches vocational carpentry and will be assistant wrestling coach at Mount Ayr Community high school.
