RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 11, 1982

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Mount Ayr was honored last week at the Iowa Community Betterment Recognition Day with an honorable mention for outstanding achievement for communities with populations from 1,440 to 2.700, one of four Ringgold county communities receiving recognition.

Terrinda KLOMMHAUS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry KLOMMHAUS of rural Mount Ayr, was crowned 1983 Ringgold County Beef Queen at a contest held Saturday at the Black Angus Room of the Shamrock Cafe here. Named Ringgold County beef princesses were Sandra LINK, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Algie LINK of rural Mount Ayr, and Jennifer SWANK, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry SWANK of rural Tingley.

Two of the winners named at the Make It Yourself With Wool contest held at the Corning high school on November 6 were from Ringgold county. Kelly RICHARDS of Tingley was the pre-teen winner and Vanette HUNT of Diagonal was first-place winner in the junior division.

The United States flag flying 24 hours a day, with lights played on it at night, at the Mount Ayr Rose Hill Cemetery, is a continuing project of the local American Legion and Auxiliary. The Legion and Auxiliary members pay for the lighting and keeping a new flag available.
