Mount Ayr Community elementary school second graders learned what it was like to attend school in a one-room schoolhouse years ago when they took trips to the schoolhouse at the Ringgold County Fairgrounds recently. The trip to the schoolhouse is an annual event for the second graders.

Major Tom KINTON will have spent a year in the Middle East serving with the U.S. Army Reserve next week. KINTON, a Mount Ayr Community high school graduate, usually lives in Maryland with his family. He has been writing a journal of his experiences and sending emails back home and a selection of his dispatches has been chosen for an article which was scheduled to run in "Esquire" magazine recently.

The Roo Duo of Dr. Nathan SMITH and Janet FETTERMAN will give one of the featured concerts of the Iowa Music Teachers Association convention in Lamoni in June. SMITH is a graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school.

The Mount Ayr congregate Meal Site will celebrate its 30th anniversary Wednesday, March 17.

Mount Ayr Community's FFA chapter memes received two golds but did not advance any entries to the state contest from the district FFA contests held in Indianola Saturday. Receiving golds were the chapter quiz team and the secretary's book. Members of the chapter quiz team were Amy WEEDA, Jenny HOSFIELD and Brandon STILL. Secretary's book was put together by Michael INLOES and Chelsea CAMPBELL.
