Twin brothers, Japp and Jack DALBY, matched strokes for more than the customary nine-hole round in Mount Ayr open golf
tournament held Sunday with Japp finally taking the champsionship flight 1-up in 11 holes to retain his title. Ninety-one golfers
representing 12 towns in northern Missouri and southern Iowa participated.
Fish Day at the Elmer MOTSINGER pond near Mount Ayr Saturday was a red letter day for 119 kids as they competed for prizes
offered by the Ringgold Outdoor Association. The prize catch for the boys was a 1 1/4-pound catfish landed by Dickie
STEPHENS. Jeanie BASTOW had the prize catch for the girls.
Jesse STEPHENS of Redding was held in contempt of court Friday by Judge William F. RILEY for refusing to tear out a dam
which he built near the west bend of Grand River in Benton township. Trouble over the dam is of several years' duration,
and the case was first entered into federal court July 1951 when STEPHENS was ordered to destory the dam.
A large crowd attended the baseball game Sunday to see the brilliant pitching duel between "Skip" EASON of Mount Ayr and
Jim JETER of Bedford. The Bedford Bruins won by a whisker with a run in the ninth to make the score 2-1.
Mary SWANK, a member of the Caledonia Clover Girls, was elected Ringgold county girls' 4-H president at the annual Rally
Day held at the schoolhouse in Mount Ayr.
The marriage of Miss Patty June TIDRICK, daughter of Mrs. Cecyl TIDRICK and the late Elmer TIDRICK, and James Lyon POLLOCK,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn POLLOCK, was solomnized Sunday afternoon, June 7 at two o'clock, at Wishard Chapel. The vows were
read by Rev. George WISE of Tingley.
The summary of Mount Ayr Livestock Market showed prices lower on all livestock this week: shoats sold up to $23.50/cwt.;
light shoats brought $16.25; fat lambs sold up to $25.00/cwt.; veal calves brought up to $21.25; fat cows to packers at $11.50/cwt.;
and heavy bulls sold to $12.50/cwt.
