The 75th anniversary of the founding of the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr was observed Sunday with programs appropriate to the occasion.

The formal opening of the new HORNE'S Rexall Store was a most successful event with more than 800 persons registering for door prizes.

In the registered beef breeding 4-H heifer show, concluded September 19 at Ak-Sar-Ben in Omaha, NE, an Angus heifer, purchased from Walter VOHIES & Son, of Shannon City, won championship honors. The heifer was shown by Janice LORIMOR of Earlham whose father purchased three heifers this spring from the VORHIES herd. Miss LORIMOR, a sophomore in the Earlham high school, has spent four years in 4-H club work.

Wayne L. JOHNSON assumed his duties Monday as rural letter carrier on route No. 1 out of Kellerton. Formerly of Everett, WA, Mr. JOHNSON was assigned to the Kellerton route under exchange agreement with Kenneth VIRDEN. He and his wife and three children, Sarah, Gregory and Jeff, arrived last week and have established their home in what is known as the TREICHLER place, which was recently purchased from Dr. Wm. I. CHANEY by Millard F. JACKSON.

Fourteen Tingley Businessmen and farmers have asked the Lions International officers for a Tingley charter. The 14 men were signed as a part of a charter group with additional men from the Tingley community meeting again Friday to complete their charter list. Carl RIGGS was elected temporary president and Wayne OVERHOLTZER was elected temporary secretary and treasurer. Other men listed on the charter were Frank RICHARDS, Dean BRECKENRIDGE, Dale REYNOLDS, Willis GRANT, Donald GROUT, Lyle BAILEY, Harold GROUT, Billy BRECKENRIDGE, Lawrence JOHNSON, Merle DUKES, Elton WERNER and E. M. BRECKENRIDGE.

  • October 07, a daughter, Loretta Mae to Mr. and Mrs. Richard MARKLAND, Grant City MO
