The search for the body of a Kellerton man who is believed to have drowned at Three Mile Lake near Afton Sunday night was called off Tuesday. More than 16 hours were spent with divers and dragging equipment trying to locate the body of Don NEWTON, 50, of Kellerton. NEWTON is reported to have jumped into the lake to retrieve a water ski about 7:55 p.m. Saturday evening and did not resurface.

A father/son pair of local anglers has been listed in first place early this season in a walleye fishing tournament series. Howard TULL of Diagonal and Jim TULL of Redding were featured in the April 26, 1999 issue of the Iowa Walleye Tournament Trail Newsletter for winning a tournament at Little River Lake on Sunday, April 25. The TULLS brought in a catch of six fish weighing 11.77 pounds and were awarded the first place check in the amount of $1,000. The TULLS also cashed $500 for the Mountain Dew Double award from the tournament and won the Abu Garcia Family Anglers award.

The city hall in Mount Ayr has a new look as remodeling to use former garage space as part of the useable space for city hall is underway. The opening to the garage has been bricked up with a new handicapped accessible doorway in place. The door leads into wha will eventually be a new council meeting room and room for other public events like driver's license examinations. The new room also provides much needed storage for city records in two large storage areas which have been made fire resistant.
