Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Franklin MOSER, of Mount Ayr, a graduate student at the State University of Iowa, Iowa City, has been awarded a $50 U. S. savings bond by the Thomas Paine Foundation of New York City for his essay, "The Importance of Thomas Paine's 'Crisis Papers' to the Success of the American Revolution." The son of Joe MOSER, Franklin is studying toward his master of fine arts degree at the university with a major in dramatic arts.

Richard McWILLIAMS, animal husbandry specialist from Iowa State College, Ames, will be a featured speaker at the Livestock and Forage Clinic to be held Friday, Feb. 18 in the courthouse assembly room in Mount Ayr. D. H. ALLEN, of Tingley, will serve as chairman of the day's program. Mr. McWILLIAMS will discuss the use of the new drug, Stilbestrol, in livestock feeding and livestock rations with silage as the major ingredient. Ralph KRENZIN, extension specialist in agronomy, another guest speaker, will discuss the processing, harvesting and storing of various kinds of silage, such as corn, grass and sorghum.

Rev. Weldon A. WHITENACK, pastor of the Diagonal Methodist church, joined the faculty of the Mount Ayr schools Monday to teach morning classes until the close of the present school year. He was hired by the school board to teach the overflow classes in English and general science and he also conducts a study hall period. Rev. WHITENACK is a graduate of Iowa State College [present-day Iowa State University], Ames, and served as pastor of the Redding Methodist church several years before he was recently assigned to the Diagonal church.
