RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, August 10, 1989

Kasey Dredge, Mount Ayr Record-News

Twenty-two Ringgold County 4-H and F.F.A. members will be showing livestock at the Iowa State Fair in progress at the fairgrounds in Des Moines, August 16-27. Additional youth will be in fashion revue, clothing selection, communications (working exhibit), educational presentations and taking leadership or service roles.

Mount Ayr Community high school just finished a decade of dominance for the softball team as the Raiderettes won five Tall Corn Conference championships, a Pride of Iowa Conference Crown, eight sectional titles, and the 1982 regional championship.

Diagonal - the Diagonal Maroons - finished with a record of 3-3 in The Great Diagonal Shoot Out July 29-30.

The Maroons defeated Fairbank Wapsie Valley, Elk Horn-Kimbalton and Hedrick, and lost to Atlantic, Pomeroy-Palmer and Washington.

A cast of 20 vocalists and 16 instrumentalists, the 1989 Iowa State Fair Singers and Jazz Band, thrilled the near-capacity crowd at Mount Ayr Community High School and auditorium in a Wednesday, August 2, one and one-half-hour-long performance.
