Four people were sworn into office at the Ringgold county courthouse Thursday. David INLOES was sworn in as a new member to the board of supervisors. Karen SCHAEFER was sworn in for her second term as county recorder. Beverly NOBLE was sworn for her second term as county treasurer. Jim PEDERSEN, county magistrate, administered the oaths of office to each county official. Clint SPURRIER, county attorney, was not available at that time but was later sworn in by PEDERSEN on Thursday. SPURRIER will be starting his second term as attorney.

Astronaut Peggy WHITSON will be coming back to Ringgold county for a public visit in February. As part of a month of public affairs visits around the country, she will be spending time in the Mount Ayr Community school district on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

A Mount Ayr student has been nominated to a U. S. military academy by U. S. Senator Chuck GRASSLEY. Mark TRULLINGER, a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school, is on a list of 19 students from across the state nominated by GRASSLEY from which two will be chosen for final admission to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

Fourth through eighth graders in the Diagonal Community school district recently completed Project T.N.T. (Towards No Tobacco Use), sponsored by the Ringgold County Public Health Agency. T.N.T. is a 10-session course taught by Sharon CARR, Ringgold County Public Health nurse, and focuses on consequences of tobacco use, decision making and refusal skills. Students completed homework assignments, played a TNT game and produced a video. Winning T.N.T. game members included Janel WORTMAN, Andrew BRIGGS, Jeff STARLIN, Brett ENGLAND and Leslie CAMPBELL.
