Mount Ayr Community high school's Office Education Association was one of only 41 chapters in the nation to receive the National Banner Award for outstanding OEA chapters. Thirteen students from the Mount Ayr OEA participated in the April 25-28 National Leadership Conference of the Office Education Association in Columbus, OH, where the presentation was made. Joni YEAROUS, local chapter president; Wendy PLOEGER, secretary, and Stacy CUNNING, parliamentarian, received the national Ambassador Award of their outstanding participation in Office Education and were honored at a reception Sunday afternoon. All Mount Ayr students placed in the top one-third of their contests with the parliamentary team and Jerry NOBLE in Typing I in the top 10 nationwide.

Mount Ayr Community high school music groups received division II ratings when they hosted the Class A and 2A large group music contest here Saturday. Over 1,300 high school musicians from across southern Iowa participated in the contest for vocal and instrumental large groups.

A Mount Ayr Community high school teacher is one of three area teachers who has authored a chapter for a new book on education for the mentally disabled. Anne BOWERS, special education coordinator in the Mount Ayr Community schools, has joined Dr. Bonnie SUSS, assistant director of special education, and Judy FREEL, teacher of the visually impaired, in writing a chapter called "Parent Communication Systems Maintaining Strong Home-School Contacts."

Four new members were inducted into the Parnassus chapter of the National Honor Society at Mount Ayr Community high school. Becky MYERS, Shelly TAYLOR, Keith TRULLINGER and Joni YEAROUS were the new members named to the society this year.

Marion and Mike STARK of Kellerton are the new owners of the Kellerton Oil and Tire Company. They began operation April 1, 1986. CARR Motors of Allendale, MO had been previous owners.

The new computer system installed January 16 at the Ringgold county sheriff's office, in cooperation with city officials, is proving to be an aid in providing quick, accurate and con?dential information about law infractions and persons in surrounding counties.

High school art contest winners at Southwestern Community College career fair held in Creston recently included Gary BAKER, Mount Ayr Community high school senior, who won first place in painting and honorable mention in drawing.
