The Christmas holiday is approaching quickly and the Ringgold County Neighborhood Center in Mount Ayr still has almost 50 families who need to be adopted for this Christmas. "Christmas 1994 will find many people in Ringgold County with not enough money to purchase even necessities for the family so area residents are again being asked to adopt a family," said Nancy KELLY, who heads the MATURA Action Agency Center in Mount Ayr.

Sharon LESAN of Mount ayr was recognized as "client of the year" and Mount Ayr Community schools received an award as "business of the year" at an Innovative Industries, Inc. annual meeting held Nov. 7 at Berning Activity Center in Creston. Criteria for LESAN'S award was that she was considered to be "the individual client who had progressed the most during the year." Particularly noticed was the loyal service she had given as a member of the local work crew.

Landi McFARLAND, daughter of David and Joy McFARLAND of rural Tingley, received a first place in a statewide Red Ribbon Week poster contest from among the 125 posters submitted in the 7-10 years old division.

Sam SWINTON, nine-year-old son of Dr. Tim and Jan SWINTON of Sioux City, was seriously injured when struck by a van as he was walking home from school Nov. 23, Sam and his family have been living in Sioux City since moving there earlier this year from Sierra Leone, Africa, where his father, a medical missionary for several years. Dr. SWINTON presently is on sabatical and is practicing medicine in Sioux City. Dr. SWINTON will be remembered as part of the parsonage family of the Mount Ayr Larger Parish of United Methodists when his father, Rev. Jerry SWINTON, served as pastor in the early 1970s. Young SWINTON suffered head injuries, a broken leg and a badly mangled foot when he was struck by the van.

Mike ALLEY, marketing director at Rideta Electric Cooperative in Mount Ayr, has resigned that position to accept employment at LaPlata Electric Coop, a company which headquarters in Durango, CO. ALLEY will be living and working at an outpost in Pagosa Springs, CO.
