RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, December 08, 1966

by Chanse Hall, Mount Ayr Record-News

A top bid of $203.50 per acre was accepted for the 160-acre farm of the Mabel Baker estate at a public sale held Tuesday. Successful bidder was Gerald Baker of Clearfield, a grandson of Mrs. Baker.

Under County Treasurer Ada Rogers' long-established policy of issuing preferred license plates to those who submitted requests before Dec. 1, Richard Richardson, of Diagonal, received 80-1 when the plates, black numerals on a white background went on sale Thursday. Holder of the number last year was James Parker of Kellerton.

Two men of this area were killed about 10 o'clock Wednesday morning of last week when their gravel trucks were involved in a head-on collision on a gravel road a mile south of Van Wert in Decatur county. Fatally injured in the accident were Clifford LeRoy Doolittle, 29, of Kellerton, and Lloyd H. Jimmerson, 53, of Grand River.

The local Jaycees Mule Maulers have challenged the young farmer's Mule Skinners to a grueling, exciting, side-splitting, comical basketball game to be played December 20 at 7:30 p.m., in the high school gymnasium in Mount Ayr.
