RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, June 07, 1956

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Included in Secretary of Agriculture Ezra T. Benson's itinerary of inspection of drought areas in southern Iowa and Nebraska was one Ringgold county farm, which is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Ernest HEGGS and located two miles west of Kellerton on Highway No. 2. He arrived at the HEGGS farm Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. In an informal and affable manner, he met his gracious hosts and shook hands with approximately 30 persons, who had awaited his arrival for two hours. In company with Mr. HEGGS, Dean Floyd Andre, head of the extension service, who planned the visit to Iowa, farmers and news and cameramen, Mr. Benson immediately set out to inspect a 60-acre field of oats, where he found the oats ranging from eight to 10 inches tall and little evidence of seeding.

One hundred young pheasants are being fed at the Otto SALTZMAN farm in Poe township under the supervision of the Iowa State Conservation Commission. The project, the first of its kind attempted in Ringgold county, is sponsored by the Ringgold County Sportsmen's Club.

Myron, the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. ROGERS of this city, has been employed for the past three years with the Hubinger Co. of Keokuk and is presently serving as personnel director for the company.
