RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, February 07, 1980

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

A break-in at Roe Imp. Co. in west Mount Ayr gave a thief or thieves $250 taken from a drawer sometime during the past weekend. The loss was reported to the Ringgold County Sheriff's office by Bob ERICKSON, a partner in the business, who discovered what had happened when he came to work Monday morning, Feb. 4 at 7 a.m.

A fire, which started in a gas clothes dryer at the Ed STILL farm residence 15 miles south of Mount Ayr, destroyed the dryer, burned some paneling and caused some water damage in the bathroom. Mrs. STILL saw smoke and called the Mount Ayr volunteer firemen to the scene at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29. The loss was covered by insurance.

Mount Ayr has a new postmaster. He is James EASON of Mount Ayr, who was sworn in by postal systems examiner, J. P. MIHALOVICH of Des Moines, here Friday afternoon. EASON takes the place of Marion E. EURITT who became postmaster Oct. 15, 1948 and retired in January 1970. Since that time the office here has been run by officer in charge Harvey YOUNG of New Market.

The R. and R. Cafe opened for business Monday, Feb. 4 at the former Ruth's Cafe site just off Highway 2 in west Mount Ayr. Owners and operators, Alice REYNOLDS and Marvin RICE, have remodeled the building, creating a cafe in the area to the east and a carpeted dining room to the west.

The Mount Ayr city council approved the setting up of two public hearings to discuss a request that rates be raised for Mount Ayr Cablevision. The rates per month for a household with one television set hooked on is $7.50 and the proposed increase would raise this amount to $8.25.
