RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, December 07, 1995

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

The Christmas holiday is approaching quickly and the Ringgold County Neighborhood Center in Mount Ayr still has almost 50 families who need to be adopted this Christmas. "Christmas 1995 wll find many people in Ringgold county with not enough money to purchase even necessities for the family, so area residents are again being asked to adopt a family," said Nancy KELLY, who heads the MATURA Action Agency center in Mount Ayr.

Kathleen FREED and her sister, Barbara SEIFFERT, of rural Redding followed the Iowa Hawkeyes all the way to Anchorage, AK to see them in the Great Alaska Shoot-out tournament held Nov. 22-25 in Sullivan Arena. Both are retired and decided if they were ever going to do something like that, the time was now. They named Barbara as the real "sports nut" but Kathleen, described as a staunch Iowa fan, was the one who pushed them into making specific plans to go to Anchorage, Nov. 21 through Nov. 26. Both women belong to the "I Club" and they joined a tour group of 124 people, mostly University of Iowa alumni, in Seattle WA to go on to Anchorage for the big tournament. The two were part of a group who left from Des Moines airport. They had tickets for all games of the eight-team tournament but admit to missing two in an attempt to be rested enough to cheer Iowa on to victory.

The Ringgold County Public Health Nursing Agency is pleased to announce that Karla HYNES, registered nurse, public health nurse, has earned the ceritification of community health nurse.

Pam QUICK Von HAGEL, 37, of Akron was so excited about bowling her first 700 series" that she called her mother, Jeannette QUICK of Tingley at midnight to tell the big news. Pam was bowling in a mixed league Nov. 30 when she rolled games o 236, 267 and 203 for a 706 total. She was bowling on a 172 average. Good bowling runs in the family as mom and dad, Jeannette and Lyle QUICK, are well known in Creston and Mount Ayr bowling circles.

Approximately 65 BOWEN family members held their "long overdue" reunion the weekend of Dec. 1-3 in Iowa City to watch Ryan BOWEN, son of Joe and Alice BOWEN of Fort Madison, play basketball for the University of Iowa in the Chevy Shoot-out tournament held at Carver Hawkeye Arena.
