RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, August 7, 1986

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Ringgold County Fair, 1986

One thing the 1986 edition of the Ringgold County Fair will be remembered for is the heat. For the first three days of the fair, temperatures climbed into the 100-degree mark at times. That meant that at least one hog died in the livestock barn and activities such as the dress-a-pig had to be cancelled because of the heat.

Topping three of the classes at the Ringgold County Fair in judging Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning were Cory WILLIS who showed the grand champion market beef, Marcy MILLER who showed the supreme champion dairy cow and Marcia MOBLEY who showed the supreme champion dairy goat. Two of the top awards in the horse show at the fair went to Jamie DENNEY who won the western horsemanship class and Krista SHAHA who received the top award show for showmanship in the 4-H and FFA horse show. Jason LYNCH showed a Chianina-Angus cross to win reserve champion honors in the steer show. Top pen of three honors in the swine and sheep shows went to Clint WALTERS who showed the champion pen of three market pigs, doubling up with the grand champion market individual honors he also won. Justin AKERS had both the grand champion and the top pen of three in the sheep show.

The livestock sale which was the final event of the Ringgold County Fair grossed $32,020 for the 4-H and FFA livestock exhibitors Wednesday afternoon.

Preparations are continuing toward the opening of the new Mount Ayr Farm Home store in the former Western Auto building north of the square in Mount Ayr. According to newly named manager Jerry MARLER of Mount Ayr, the store is expected to be open for business in early fall.

She left a high school senior, after a six-month stay in the Jim CLARK home in Mount Ayr, and has returned as a nearly 21-year-old young woman. Aizita REIS of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has arrived in Mount Ayr for a month's visit with Jim and Marj CLARK and their daughters, Melissa (14) and Rebecca (12). The CLARKS hosted Aizita three years ago when she came as an exchange student under the Youth For Understanding program.
