First acre ceremony for the Ringgold County Soil Survey Tuesday afternoon brought 21 people to the Curt LININGER farm northwest of Tingley where much of the program was held inside a barn out of the cold drizzle. Louis BOECKMAN and Mark WESPETAL, soil scientists with the Soil Conservation Service, took the symbolic first sample core while those in attendance watched. The soil survey, which will take four years to complete, will provide detailed information about the soil type, slope and erosion class of the soil all over Ringgold county. The survey will be of use to the county assessor in equalizing farmland values and to farmers and landowners for a number of differnt ueses. Ringgold countywill be paying $90,000 as its share of the survey costs.

A telephone and approximately $100 in cash were taken in a break-in at Small Corral on the north side of the square in Mount Ayr sometime Sunday night, according to the Ringgold County Sheriff's Office. Entry into the restaurant was gained through a window, it was reported.

Dealing with dogs running loose in the city and the resignation of city councilman Richard ELLIOTT were among items of business for the Mount Ayr city council Monday night. Councilman ELLIOTT resigned from the council effective April 4, as he and his family will be moving away from Mount Ayr. the council voted to accept the resignation with regret.

Tower Feed and Grain, Mount Ayr, was recognized recently at an award banquet in Des Moines, sponsored by Kent Feeds, Inc., of Muscatine. The firm was cited for its outstanding sales during 1982. The awards was presented by Maurie REED, senior vice-president and general sales manager, to Lyle and Vicki GREIMANN, Darwin and Marla STARK and Kenny CARAWAY.
