RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, March 06, 1980

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Two 4-H exhibitors from Ringgold County, Kevin TRIGGS and Eddie McCREARY of Mount Ayr, won top honors in the 27th annual Creston Spring Market Swine Show held Saturday, March 1 at the Creston Livestock Auction Sale Barn. In the open class division, Marvin TRIGGS and Jim McCREARY of Mount Ayr had high placings.

Fire destroyed 40 big bales of hay at the Loren WINEMILLER farm, seven miles south of Mount Ayr, at 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 27. Insurance was expected to cover the loss which was between $800 and $1,000.

There was an estimated $2,850 in property damage following a one-vehicle accident on a Mount Ayr street at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1. Thomas SWANSON of rural Mount Ayr was reported to be going south on Shellway Drive when he lost control of his 1980 Chevrolet pickup on a slippery street. City police, who investigated, said he slid into a yard between the Bill WARIN and Dennis WARD residences, striking a light pole, tree and fire plug, damaging them and his pickup.

A longtime member of the Ringgold county board of supervisors announced this week that he will not seek re-election. He is Earl WHEELEN of Maloy, who is completing 16 years as a member of the board. That is the longest period ever served by any member of the board. In his statement, WHEELEN said, "The 16 years I have served on the board, it has been my aim to work with other board members and county officials with the hope that I will leave office with a good image for myself, the Democrat party, and more important, Ringgold county. In spite of growing controls imposed by state and federal governments, there is still much that can be done at the county level to insure good county government." For the present, WHEELEN will continue to live on his farm near Maloy.

Doyle TRULLINGER has announced his candidacy for re-election for a second term on the board of supervisors.
