Plans for organizing a Ringgold County Sheriff's Posse were furthered during a meeting held Friday night in the courthouse assembly room in Mount Ayr. Leonard RATLIFF, deputy sheriff of Taylor county, and Rex PETERMAN, posse vice-president, met with the group and explained the purposes and functions of the Taylor County Sheriff's Posse, its organization, necessary expenses and methods of financing the same.

Mrs. Herald WALTER assumed her duties Monday as clerk of Ringgold County Local Board No. 81 (Selective Service), in Mount Ayr. Mrs. WALTER fills the vacancy caused by the resignation in August of Pauline KRISINGER, who was transferred to a like position in California.

W. H. STRANGE, 85, of Nebraska City, NE, was found dead Wednesday afternoon of last week on the Diagonal-Clearfield road, about three miles west of Diagonal. A former resident of Maloy and Clearfield, he moved in 1946 to Lenox, where he was engaged in business as a taxidermist. In 1952, he and Mrs. STRANGE removed to Nebraska City, where they had since made their home.

Fred D. McCLELLAND of Mount Ayr was named acting Ringgold county engineer by the board of supervisors last week. He is employed on a temporary basis to fill the vacancy caused by the death of M. A. RUBEK, who had served in that capacity for 12 years. Mr. McCLELLAND served as county engineer of Ringgold county from January 1946 to May 15, 1947.

John D. WARIN of Maloy was re-elected chairman of the Ringgold County Board of Education for a term of two years. Mr. WARIN has served continuously as chairman since the board was established in 1948.

Robert BECK of Kellerton qualified as director from Area No. 4, two-year term, and Vern JOHNSON of Diagonal, qualified from Area No. 2, six-year term.

Plans are being completed for the annual homecoming festivities of the Mount Ayr Community high school. Cheryl NEWTON, chairman of the homecoming parade, is being assisted by Karen RICE, Paul RUCKMAN and Joe BOWEN. Senior girls chosen as queen candidates by their classmates and elected by the entire student body were Mary Sue BASTOW, Donna BROWN, Becky JAMES, Karen RICE and Janet WOOD.

Mrs. Ronald TULL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen QUICK of Redding, was cited recently for her finework at the U. S. Army Engineer Research and Development Laboratories, Fort Belvoir, VA. Mrs. TULL graduated from the Redding high school, attended the Creston Junior College and prior to her marriage, was a secretary in the office of attorney Emmet R. WARIN of Mount Ayr. Mr. TULL, son of the Alvin TULLS of Shannon City, recently received his honorable discharge from army service and he and Mrs. TULL are visiting with relatives and friends in the county.
