Flags of all 50 states were on display at the fanale of the parade at the Diagonal Labor Day celebration when 50 people on horseback displayed the flags while "America the Beautiful" was played. The string of horsemen and horses reached more than halfway down Main Street in Diagonal for the parade display. A number of people were involved in organizing the horse display with flags borrowed from the Sheridan, MO Community Club.

Mount Ayr will be the starting point for the Iowa River City Roundup annual trail ride which begins Saturday, Sept. 20. Welcoming people to the grounds of the Mount Ayr Community high school this year is a sign honoring MACHS graduate Peggy WHITSON, NASA astronaut. Not only does the sign designed last year by Fay HOWIE'S physics class have a permanent home, but a flower garden was put in place around the sign on the north side of the high school building. The sign began as a project when John LARSEN and James SAVILLE asked HOWIE'S physics class to design it last year.

A photo taken in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr on Memorial Day 2002 has been selected as a semifinalist in the International Library of Photography and will be published this fall in a book "Endless Journey." The photo was taken by Debra HANKINS of Ankeny, daughter of Harold and Verla REPP of Mount Ayr.

A former Ringgold county resident has published a new book through Vantage Press. RINEHART is the son of Joan and Park RINEHART of Mount Ayr. Lynn RINEHART of Mount Ayr is his brother.
