RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, Thursday, September 4, 1986

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Parade marshals for the Diagonal Lions Club Labor Day parade were Verl and Velma WATTS of Diagonal. Prince was Adam STEPHENS and princess was Amy SCHLAPIA.

Thirteen-year-old Stacy JENNINGS, daughter of William and Barbara JENNINGS of Ellston, has been working to perfect a new breed of rabbit. Three years after setting a goal to do this, and six generations of rabbits later, she feels she is approaching the development of a Siamese Rex rabbit. She took this 4-H project to the Iowa State Fair but it was not judged because there wasn't a set of standards by which it could be judged. Because of it not being judged there, she has taken it to mean a confirmation of a new breed.

The unsettled farm economy in Ringgold county hasn't done anything to help move the county out of last place when it comes to per capita income, figures from 1983 in a new Census Bureau study show. Ringgold county still leads the state in the lowest annual income per person with a $5,579 in 1983. the study showed. The income per person was up five percent over the four-year period of 1979-1983, the study showed. The state's overall growth for the same period was 27 percent.

Four more Ringgold county residents were among $86 winners in the Iowa Lottery during the past month. Winners include Bernard CRAWFORD of Mount Ayr, Elton Lyle GREIMANN of Kellerton, Irene SNYDER of Diagonal and Donald VORHIE of Shannon City.

Six seniors will take the field when the Mount Ayr Community Raider football opens its 1986 season Friday night against Lamoni. Seniors include Johannes LAUERBACH, Vic LILIENTHAL, Folkard FRITZ, Omer ADLI, Kevin O'MAILIA and Wayde SHOESMITH.

Joe MURPHY of Mount Ayr took the title in two divisions at the Stomper pull held at the 1986 Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. MURPHY won the super stock and the supermodified classes - two of the nine classes of competition at the fair.

Two former Mount Ayr Community football players will take the field for college football programs this fall. Kenny DAVENPORT will be playing on the Northwest Missouri State University football team in Maryville, MO. Terry MERCER will be playing with the Midland Lutheran College Warrior football team at Fremont, NE.

Wednesday, Sept. 10, the Mount Ayr Regular Baptist Church will begin a series of broadcasts on the local cable channel 12. The program will originate from the pastor's study at the church and will feature the teaching ministry of Pastor Donn ARMS.
