RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, October 04, 1962

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

A new well, 121 feet deep, which was recently drilled and tested, is providing the residents of Kellerton with an abundance of water. It has brought welcome relief to town officials and residents, who have been required to use water sparingly since the municipal waterworks system was established. The problem was aggravated with the establishment of a laundromat.

James L. EASON assumed the duties of substitute clerk in the Mount Ayr post office on September 29. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul EASON of Washington township, Mr. Eason is married to the former Nina MORRISON and they have four children.

Activities of the Mount Ayr Community high school's annual homecoming, scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) began last night with a snake dance. The students assembled at the schoolhouse and from there proceeded to the Hy-Vee parking lot for a pep rally, speaker for which was Joe McNEILL, head football coach and a bonfire. A highlight of the evening activities is the crowning of a homecoming queen at 7:15 p.m., by Supt. C. Arthur HANSEN. The five "lovelies" and their parents are Linda CORLL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald CORLL, Mount Ayr; Susie HUNT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sanford HUNT, Redding; Jane KINNE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don KINNE, Tingley; Karen McQUIGG, niece of Mr. and Mrs. Rexie DAVIS, Redding; and Carolyn REYNOLDS, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Everett REYNOLDS, Mount Ayr.

As a courtesy to Walter HUDSON, who retired Friday upon completion of 42 years and eight months of service with the Mount Ayr post office, employees and former employees entertained that evening at a steak dinner in the Berning Cafe in Creston.
