Wednesday Keith and Beth WHITSON and Hugh and Jackie WHITSON and their family traveled to Graceland University in Lamoni for a two-way video link-up with the International Space Station to talk to astronaut Dr. Peggy WHITSON.

Celebrating history and the 100th anniversary of 4-H will be part of the activity of the Ringgold County Fair this year.

Twice during the week, a musical play, "Roamin' Ringgold County in 1902," will be presented by Sites for Learning students from the Mount Ayr Community program.

Ringgold County Heroes parade was held Saturday honoring the local fire departments, emergency medical services and law enforcement personnel as part of the roll out of a new stamp by the United States Postal Service.

Ringgold county Sheriff's office and the Ringgold County Ambulance was called to an accident at the 100 block of East Fifth Street in Kellerton at 2:45 a.m. on June 20. Lawrence Gene MOOREHEAD, 34, of Kellerton was transported to the Ringgold County Hospital He later was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. MOOREHEAD was pronounced dead later that afternoon. The death is under investigation by the Ringgold County Sheriff's office.

Bertha STAFFORD of Mount Ayr Health Care Center celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday, June 25. STAFFORD is the mother of Lorene TRIGGS of Mount Ayr. She has been in Mount Ayr Health Care Center since January 3, 1999.

Ninety-nine Iowa students from 99 counties have been named recipients of the 2002 Christina Hixson Opportunity Awards at Iowa State University. Kyle FORD of Tingley and a recent graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school has been named as a recipient of a 2002 Hixson Opportunity Award.

Supervisors Royce DREDGE, Barbara BOWER and Ethel CAMPBELL were on hand for a barbecue honoring Bill PRIEST for serving 35 years on the county roads crew.

Nick CREVELING, a Ringgold county sailor, was on the deck of the U.S.S. Carney when secretary of defense Donald H. RUMSFIELD spoke to the sailors in Manama, Bahrain June 10.

The wind storm that blew through Ringgold county caused a bit of damage to several area homes. Donnie and Joann POLLOCK had several cottonwood trees down in their back yard. Angie and Todd GLENDENNING had siding blown off the house which landed in the tree. Lee and Heather MARTIN had part of a yard tree land on their home. Several crops were flattened by the heavy rain and winds. Rainfall was reported spotty throughout the county.
