RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, July 04, 1996

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Members of the Ringgold County Sesquicentennial Commission made progress in marking the Dragoon Trace, an early trail through Ringgold county Saturday, June 22. Over 60 signs were erected along roads from the Union county line northeast of Ellston, down P-64 to Blackmore Corner, to Lesanville on south through Caledonia and Ringgold City. The colorful red and yellow signs, designed by Angie HYNEK, tell a story with Indian picture language marking schoolhouse sites, towns, creeks and cemeteries.

A record of the name Tingley came to the attention of Marietta EIGHME at the time she was a librarian in the Chicago Art Institute. Tingley is known to be of English origin and long standing. As is known, the town of Tingley is named for Tingley CORNWALL, an early and prominent resident of the area.

Over $207,000 has been committed to the project to open a second grocery store in Mount Ayr as of Tuesday morning, according to members of the Community Grocers, Inc. board. The group is hoping to raise $640,000 as a goal, but needs a minimum of $575,000 by July 15 to be able to get the grocery store project up and going in the former Place's building in Mount Ayr, which is owned by the corporation.

Open house was held at the offices of the Richard L. WILSON, P.C. law firm in Mount Ayr this week with a ribbon cutting ceremony by the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce for the firm located on the west side of the square.
