RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, April 04, 2002

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

The board of supervisors declared a vacancy in the office of the Ringgold County Supervisors due to the death of Lloyd BEDIER on March 19, 2002. According to Iowa Code, in the event of the death of an incumbent member, the county treasurer, auditor and recorder have to fill the position by appointment within 40 days after the vacancy. Because BEDIER was an incumbent, his position will be added to the ballot for the primary election on June 4, 2002. Nomination papers were turned in on March 27 for Wayne KEMERY, Kenneth QUICK and William REES to run for BEDIER'S vacancy. Those turning in papers to run against incumbent Ethel CAMPBELL were David INLOES and Dianna PETERS.

Major awards were presented when the Mount Ayr Community high school FFA chapter held its annual awards banquet at the high school Monday. Top awards went to Holly MEESTER, Star Agribusiness; Sheryl DOLECHECK, Star Placement; Michael INLOES, Star Greenhand; Mekenze BISHOP, Most Valuable Member, and Landi McFARLAND, Star Production.

Former Mount Ayr Community high school athletic director Mark LARSEN was inducted into the Iowa High school Athletic Directors Association hall of fame at a banquet recently. LARSEN served as athletic director for 21 years in Mount Ayr Community high school before retiring last year.
