Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, September 03, 1987

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Karla KINTON of Mount Ayr and this year's Ringgold County Fair Queen was awarded second runner-up at this year's state fair. KINTON is the daughter of Rev. Phil and Rev. Doris KINTON, pastors of the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr. This was thought to be the highest placing ever by a Ringgold county queen in the state competition.

Four new faculty members for the Mount Ayr Community school system were announced this week. They are Dan HOVDEN, high school biology and health; Ken HURMENCE, junior high English; Betsy JONES, high school English and speech; Stacey DUTY, special education preschool.
The largest class of Mount Ayr Community school district saw its first day of school last week. The 74 kindergarteners class, which will be the graduating MAC Class of 2000, helped boost the school district to it's largest enrollment since the 1883-84 school year.

One of the featured attractions of the September 12 Ayr Days event will be the Scottish Highlanders from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. The group will perform pipe and drum music, marching and Scottish dances.

Amy Lynn STEPHENS of Redding and John FORD of Kellerton were married August 8 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Maloy. The couple will make their home on a farm near Mount Ayr.

Randy SMITH of Mount Ayr became the Knoxville season track champion for the fourth time last week. He had previous wins in 1979, 1983 and 1985. He is now fourth on the all-time career feature wins list with 24 victories. He has 95 total race wins at Knoxville since records have been kept since 1976 and holds the 10-lap track speed record as well.
