Among winners in various categories of the Tingley Fun Night Halloween parade Monday night were Panda Bears Angie and Brandi LININGER, Billy WELLING'S version of Dracula, witch Josie DOLECHECK and Marlene ZARR as a three-headed woman.

The new Life Flight helicopter from Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines stopped in Mount Ayr Friday on a tour of area communities. The new A-Star helicopter replaces an older model, flying 30 miles per hour faster and using 10 gallons of fuel per hour less than the model it replaces. Flight nurse Rita IBBOTSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren IBBOTSON of Tingley, accompanied the flight as well as the program administrator and pilot. The helicopter ambulance transports patients to Des Moines or other area centers from a wide area of Iowa.

Four area towns -- Beaconsfield, Benton, Blockton and Diagonal -- were part of Iowa Development Commission's Community Betterment program for the past year. The Beaconsfield group, directed by Irene CRIGLER and Agnes WEST, inaugurated a scholarship program using $4,000 left in the Beaconsfield Centennial celebration fund and from other gifts.

The plan is to provide scholarships for Beaconsfield area youth who will be seeking additional training after high school

At Benton, KathryN GRAHAM and Helen BLUNCK headed a committee which arranged for paneling the interior walls of the community building, putting on a new door, constructing new wooden steps and installing a gas furnace.

The Blockton Community Betterment Club has arranaged a mini-park on one side of the main street in Blockton and supplied it with a picnic table and children's play equipment. A mural, depicting scenes past and present from around Blockton, was painted at the community hall.

At Diagonal, the community betterment program this year involved two adult and six youth projects under the direction of president Jim NEWTON, vice-president Vanette HUNT and secretary Frank GUNSOLLEY. The adult program saw the purchasing and construction of Christmas decorations and lighting of the town and the building of a mini-park behind the Lions building. It was equpped with a swing set, picnic table and a fence surrounds it. A tree was planted there also.

Ringgold county recorded the sixth traffic fatality of the year Monday when Leland SAVILLE, 80, of Mount Ayr, died following a two-car accident two miles east of Redding.

Anna Mae KOBBE of Plattsburg, MO was elected president-elect of the National Association of Extension Home Economists. KOBBE, a Mount Ayr native, will serve as president-elect until September, 1984, when she will be installed as the president of the National Association of Extension Home Economists.

Alan BAKER, a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school in Mount Ayr, has been cited for outstanding performance in writing. The National Countil of Teachers of English has named him a winner of the 1983 NCTE Achievement Award in Writing.

A print of Robert SISSEL'S painting "New Directions" was presented to the Ringgold county courthouse recently by the Southcentral Iowa Production Credit Agency. Larry OPHER, manager of the Mount Ayr office of the farm lending agency, presented the picture to the board of supervisors Duane POORE, Jim JONES and Doyle TRULLINGER. Another copy of the print will be presented to the Mount Ayr Public Library according to OPHER.

Marla STARK of Kellerton was named middleweight class National Monster Arm Wrestling Champion in the national championships held in Des Moines.
