RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, May 3, 1962

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Three young men, all juniors in the Mount Ayr Community schools, have been selected to attend Hawkeye Boys State the week of June 3 at Camp Dodge. They are Jerry SOBOTKA, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe SOBOTKA; Larry BOLTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick BOLTON, and Royce DREDGE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank DREDGE. Their trip is sponsored by Ringgold Post No. 172, American Legion.

The Mount Ayr Community high school has been placed on the list of secondary schools approved for the ensuing year by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. To be placed on the approved list of the North Central Association is the highest accreditation a high school can receive. Of the 510 public high schools in the state of Iowa, only 166 are members of the association.

Tools and a fishing tackle box were taken Wednesday night of last week from the Gambles Store, by a thief or thieves who gained entrance to the building by removing the nails from a rear window. Melvin WURSTER, owner and proprietor, discovered the break-in when he entered the store about 8:30 that evening.

Lyman J. WALKER, II, of Kellerton, was presented with a cash award April 5 for having won first place in the 1962 C. W. Shirey Competition at Iowa State University in Ames.

Mount Ayr will be host to more than 2,000 students, who will compete in large group music contests to be held Saturday, May 5. Members of bands and boys and girls glee clubs from 20 high schools in southwest Iowa will participate in the all-day events.
