RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, March 03, 1955

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Wm. S. BRECKENRIDGE was elected president of the Tingley State Savings Bank and Wayne A. OVERHOLTZER was named vice-president at the regular meeting of the board of directors held Monday. Mr. BRECKENRIDGE, formerly vice-president, succeeds D. L. McCLURE, who retires from the bank after relinquishing his interests to Carl G. RIGGS, cashier, and Margaret EIGHME, assistant cashier.

Robert L. BAILEY, 74, well-known real estate dealer, suffered a broken hip Monday night at his home in Diagonal. He is a patient in the Ringgold County Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. S. P. STUCK were the honored guests at a family dinner Thursday in their home on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary.

A large barn on the farm operated by Wayne HAIDSIAK, 12 miles west of Mount Ayr, was destroyed by fire on the afternoon of February 22. Also lost in the blaze were two sows with their pigs, about a thousand bales of hay, some grain and a few tools. Mr. HAIDSIAK stated when he reported the loss that he supposed the fire had started from two heat lamps used to brood the pigs. He said the barn was blazing all over when he discovered it. "The hay and the implements lost in the fire were covered by insurance," said Carl F. PETERSEN, secretary of Ringgold Mutual Insurance Association.

The Beaconsfield girls' basketball team closed a successful season in the finals of the district tournament when they lost to Melo, 62-58. The team won 24 games and sustained two losses, one to Redding by two points in regular play and one to Tingley by two points in the county tournament. The team included Myrtle SEVIER, Mary Lou PEDERSEN, Barbara LONG, Helen WADDELL, LaVerna WADDELL, Beth WALTERS, Beth BRYANT, Joy BROWN, Patricia SEVIER, Mary Kae LANTZ, Patricia PADGETT and Sharon BROWN. The superintendent was A. R. TROYER.

The Diagonal Maroons advanced to sub-state play by edging Blockton, 54-52 Thursday night at Creston in a clean and nearly flawless game. The Raiders gained their berth with a decisive, 75-55 win over Creston.
