A large barn, 40 x 48 feet, was destroyed by fire Monday on the farm in Liberty township owned by Herbert BASTOW and known as the JERREMS place. The fire, which was caused by lightning, also destoryed a large amount of hay.

Through the sale of orange marmalade by members of the Hospital Auxiliary $200 were realized, which will be used towards the establishment of a medical library at Ringgold County Hospital. In all towns of the county, auxiliary members sold 400 pints of the marmalade. The recipe for the marmalade was brought to Mount Ayr by Mrs. H. WHITE who received it from Mrs. Harry WAKEFIELD of Harlingen, TX.

The Coffee Shop in Mount Ayr will open June 7 under the management of Mrs. Bess GUTHRIE. Mrs. GUTHRIE will continue to operate the B.I.G. Hat and Gift shop with Mrs. Lloyd DENHART in charge.

The Atlantic Construction Commission was awarded the contract for grading what is known as the Pole Road, from Diagonal north 5.8 miles to the Union-Ringgold county line. The Pole Road formerly included in the state system of roads, was reverted to the county system recently.

Luella TIDRICK of Mount Ayr and Herman C. FORGY of Omaha, NE were united in marriage May 25 in the United Presbyterian Churh of Tingley.

  • May 30, a daughter, Deva Kay, to Mr. and Mrs. Bill RINEHART, Mount Ayr
  • May 30, a son, Lonnie Lee, to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis RUSH, Saint Joseph MO
