Ann POTTORFF and Gary NIEDT were awarded the Lions Club trophies for their outstanding 4-H record books.

Alvin G. HUDSON is a candidate for the bachelor of laws degree to be awarded at Drake University's mid-year commencement Sunday, February 6, at 3 p.m. in the University Christian Church in Des Moines.

John E. FREELAND, general manager of the Schweser Store in Columbia, NE was honored Wednesday of last week by Phillip M. Talbott, president of the National Retail Dry Goods Association, when his appointment to the association's Consumer Relations Committee was announced. Mr. FREELAND is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. E. FREELAND, of Mount Ayr, and until he and his family moved several years ago to Columbus, he owned and operated FREELAND'S Store in this city.

W. B. BUELL, of Diagonal, announces the purchase of the W. E. WHEELER barbershop in Mount Ayr, possession having been given the first of February.

E. E. CARR and W. E. ROBERTS were among 400 Hereford breeders who exhibited and sold cattle at the Iowa Hereford Association show and sale, held last week at Cedar Rapids. Two August yearling bulls, owned by Mr. CARR, sold for $515 and $420, and an older bull brought $400. Two bulls, 18 and 16 months old, owned by Mr. ROBERTS sold for $635 and $415. His prize pen of three August yearling heifers sold for $245 each, and another heifer brought $285.
