RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, December 02, 1982

by Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

A Ringgold county family exhibited the grand champion Gelbvieh female at the American Royal in Kansas City, MO recently in the largest Gelbviech cattle show held in the United States. The home-raised purebred heifer was owned by Eddie McCREARY of Mount Ayr ans was shown by his father, Jim McCREARY. The heifer was also named champion senior female.

After the tractor he was driving turned over twice, landing down an embankment, Archie ORR of Shannon City was in the Ringgold County Hospital being treated for head injuries. It took 30 stitches to close a wound on his head, ORR said. The mishap happened about two and one-half miles west of Highway 25 in Taylor county, about 2 p.m. November 26. ORR said he was going west on a gravel groad. To avoid a "washout" on the road he swerved, sending his tractor across the road and down into a ditch where he couldn't be seen from the road. He managed to crawl up the bank and a passerby was able to summon help.

King and queen for the homecoming festivities at Grand Valley Community high school in Kellerton this Friday will be chosen from Barbara DOSER, Selena PAYTON, Cindy BOLES, Julie SCHWALBE, Mike INGRAM, Marty GREENLAND, Brad STILL and Roland SHIELDS.

Raymond JONES of Beaconsfield was a recipient of the Governor's Leadership Award during Iowa community betterment recognition day activities in Ames recently. Governor Robert Ray presented the award to JONES, who was nominated for his years of service and dependibility in meeting his community's needs.
